A concept by Glu Hospitality (think Fig, Anejoand Yanaga’s Izakaya), Vesper is a chic reimagining of what was once a Prohibition-era speakeasy and later gentleman’s dinner club. Although the bar itself is not exclusive, it holds a little secret for connoisseurs. Tucked away delightfully behind a bookcase and in a secret passageway, Vesper’s secret bar is a quiet place to escape the high energy downstairs. The speakeasy limits the use of cell phones to retain an old-world vibe, so do your best not to document the experience. In addition to the standard and seasonal cocktail list, the speakeasy has crafted specialty cocktails around its current resident program, Deceptions. Billed as a “magical night of mystery and illusion,” Deceptions features Mervant the Deceiver, a master illusionist who will shock and amaze you (as if the secret passage wasn’t enough).
How to enter: Turn on your charms with the bartenders. If you’re cool, they’ll give you a secret password that unlocks the library and leads to the speakeasy. Otherwise, listen carefully to the surrounding society. You might hear the password passing. Say the password into the rotary phone (you’ll know it because it’s literally a rotary phone), and the library should open.
