Michael Chandler predicts Poirier’s outcome against Oliveira
Michael Chandler has given his prediction on how he sees the fight between Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira unfold when the two meet later this year.
After coming to the UFC as one of the most accomplished fighters to ever fight in the promotion, Michael Chandler had a dream start to life with his new venture as he scored a huge victory by knockout against Dan Hooker.
After his debut, Chandler experienced a quick turnaround and faced Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title four months later. Despite a solid first round, the 35-year-old was caught and finished just 19 seconds into the second round.
While Chandler remains optimistic about the fight for UFC gold in the near future, he does think “Do Bronx” may not be the man at the top of the division if that moment ever comes along.
In a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour, Michael Chandler started off by applauding Oliveira for evolving and becoming the fighter we see today.
“I think they’re both complete fighters. I think Oliveira has shown in her last two fights, especially in the fight against me, her hands have come, ”Chandler said. “He’s basic and he hits hard. He hits harder than you think. His grappling is obviously… has always been perfect.
Although he was complimentary of the champion, Chandler sees the fight unfold against the Brazilian.
“But I just think Dustin Poirier is a little better in every way. I think Dustin Poirier’s cardio, I think Dustin Poirier’s ability to hurt him and finish the fight like I couldn’t, is second to none. I think Dustin Poirier wins this fight with a third or fourth round stoppage. Chandler guessed.
Charles Oliveira will be hoping to make his first successful UFC lightweight title defense when he puts it all on the line against Dustin Poirier at UFC 269 on December 11.
