Demetrious Johnson is impressed with Khamzat Chimaev


Demetrious Johnson praised Khamzat Chimaev. “Mighty Mouse” claimed that Chimaev was “very talented”.

Speaking to James Lynch from Combat sports on Fanatics View, Demetrious Johnson opened up on several topics, including Khamzat Chimaev. Lynch asked “Mighty Mouse” for his take on the Chechen-born Swedish MMA star.

Johnson replied:

“Yeah, he’s awesome. You know, it’s mixed martial arts. Everything can happen. So far what I have seen of him; very skillful, very talented. And, you know, he’s got to stay healthy and stay focused and go out there and compete. “

Khamzat Chimaev has received a lot of praise for his performance in 2020. He has been hailed by many as the UFC Star of the Year. ‘Borz’ made his UFC debut in July 2020. He’s been in two fights in ten days – at welterweight and middleweight – and won saves in both.

Following this, Khamzat Chimaev faced veteran MMA fighter Gerald Meerschaert in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley in September 2020. Chimaev put on a spectacular performance against Meerschaert, knocking him out in 17 seconds. .

With an undefeated professional MMA record of 9 wins and 0 losses, Khamzat Chimaev was looking to break into the upper echelons of the UFC. He was then booked to take on top-ranked UFC welterweight Leon Edwards in a potential title clash.

Sadly, Chimaev contracted COVID-19 and his ensuing health issues led to his fight against Edwards being canceled three times.

Khamzat Chimaev v Li Jingliang and Demetrious Johnson v Rodtang Jitmuangnon

Khamzat Chimaev recovered from his health problems related to COVID-19 earlier this year. The talented 27-year-old is now set to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon against another knockout artist. Chimaev is set to fight Li Jingliang in a three-round welterweight bout at UFC 267 on October 30, 2021.

Confirmed, UFC is working on Khamzat Chimaev (@KChimaev) return against Li Jingliang (@UfcJingliang) for UFC 267 in October. Unsigned, but both parties agree, sources said. The Wolf vs the Leech at 170 pounds.

Meanwhile, former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is set to face pound-for-pound Muay Thai great Rodtang Jitmuangnon in a special rules bout comprising four, three-minute rounds.

Rounds one and three of the bout will be contested under ONE Muay Thai rules. Rounds two and four will be played under ONE MMA rules. The fight will take place during a special ONE Championship event on December 5, 2021.

Demetrious Johnson will face Muay Thai champion Rodtang in a mixed rule bout at ONE X on December 5th, Chatri Sityodtong reported on “The MMA Hour”.
