Junior Dos Santos is moving from the octagon to the ring – at least for now.

Dos Santos, 37, is the former UFC heavyweight world champion. To win the title in 2011, he scored a quick 64-second knockout against Cain Velasquez. Ten years later and just like his rival, “Cigano” followed in Velasquez’s footsteps by trying his hand at professional wrestling.

Over the past few months, American Top Team owner Dan Lambert, along with several MMA fighters training outside the gym, has taken over All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite on Wednesday nights – Junior Dos Santos included.

In this latest episode, Lambert announced that next week in Miami on Friday Night AEW: Rampage, there will be a six-man tag team match between AEW’s Inner Circle and Ethan Page, Scorpio Sky and the first Dos Santos.

UFC’s top welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal will also make his presence felt by accompanying the “JDS” team into the ring where they will stand outside the ring. This will not be the first appearance of “Gamebred” in AEW.

Junior Dos Santos (21-9) was released from the UFC after his last loss in December. Facing interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane, Dos Santos suffered his fourth straight loss by TKO.

Since then, the Brazilian has expressed interest in potentially getting into boxing and joining the Bellator roster for a dream match with Fedor Emelianenko. Unfortunately for Dos Santos and everyone else in the Emelianenko contest, Tim Johnson ended up getting the call for the Bellator’s debut in Russia on October 23.

As for Masvidal, title holder Baddest Motherf * cker is set to line up an old grudge match with Leon Edwards – while simultaneously running his own bare-handed MMA promotion, Gamebred FC.

Paddy Pimblett has suggested he has booked his next UFC fight. “The Baddy’s” claim about his next appearance in the Octagon comes about a month after his spectacular UFC debut.

Drawing on his official Instagram account, Paddy Pimblett featured an image of himself slapping mittens. The Instagram post featuring the image also contained a brief statement which read:

“Contract signed @graham_boylan”

Paddy Pimblett notably tagged Cage Warriors big boss Graham Boylan in his Instagram post. Pimblett is managed by Boylan.

While ‘The Baddy’ has hinted that he has put pen to paper for his next fight, it’s unclear who his opponent is. Fans can expect details regarding Pimblett’s opponent, date and event to be revealed in the coming days.

Paddy Pimblett is ready to take on all the challengers

Paddy Pimblett recently spoke with legendary boxing trainer and combat sports personality Teddy Atlas and touched on several topics. During his appearance on THE FIGHT with Teddy Atlas podcast, Pimblett indicated that he was ready to fight anyone and everyone.

“The Baddy” did point out, however, that while he’s not averse to taking on challengers, his goal is to fight the top five lightweight UFC lightweights over the next two years. Paddy Pimblett said:

“I think the best 155er in the world is Dustin Poirier. Even if he doesn’t have the belt. I think he will win the belt. So Oliveira is brilliant. I also note Islam Makhachev. I would like to fight people like that. The upper echelons of the division. Michael Chandler, Justin Gaethje. People like it. I think they are the top five and in the next two years I want to fight against them.

“I’m not looking for anyone. I do not need it. The number of people talking about me, on Twitter and Instagram. Fighters from the 155 pound division, even fighters from other divisions, guys. They all take pictures with my hair on it. They want to jump in the Paddy wagon, my boy. Like, people can use my name as much as they want, but I won’t name anyone’s name. I do not need it. I’m just going to sit here and smile.

British MMA mainstay Paddy Pimblett just picked up a first round knockout victory over Luigi Vendramini at UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Till on September 4, 2021. Pimblett currently competes in the UFC lightweight division.

The UFC’s first pay-per-view in 2022 will have two title fights on the card as Francis Ngannou takes on Ciryl Gane and Israel Adesanya takes on Robert Whittaker.

According to French media outlet La Seur, Ngannou will look to defend his heavyweight title for the first time against interim champion Ciryl Gane. The fight will take place at UFC 270 on January 22 with the location yet to be determined. The report also states that Adesanya will also face Whittaker for the middleweight title on the card.

Francis Ngannou (16-3) has just won a KO victory over Stipe Miocic to claim the heavyweight title. The victory was his fourth in a row because during the race he knocked out Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Junior dos Santos, Curtis Blaydes and Cain Velasquez. Ngannou wanted to fight again this year and wanted it to be in September but the promotion couldn’t get along with him.

Image Credit: Josh Hedges / Zuffa LLC via Getty Images

Ciryl Gane (10-0) won the interim heavyweight title last time around with a TKO victory over Derrick Lewis at UFC 265 in August. It was only his seventh fight in the UFC and had already won gold in the UFC after turning pro in August 2018. During his tenure at the UFC, he beat Alexander Volkov by decision and holds also notable victories over Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Junior dos Santos and Tanner Boser.

Ngannou against Gane was the fight to take after the Frenchman won the interim belt. There is also a story there as they briefly trained together as Gane’s coach is Ngannou’s former coach.

With the other title fight, Adesanya and Whittaker will have their highly anticipated trilogy. The two first met in October 2019 at UFC 243 where Adesanya scored a second round TKO to become the middleweight champion. Since then he has defended his belt against Marvin Vettori, Paulo Costa and Yoel Romero while losing to Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight belt. Whittaker, meanwhile, is 3-0 since losing the belt.

Who do you think will win this pair of successful title fights?

It looks like Luke Rockhold has gotten under the skin of rising UFC bantamweight star Sean O’Malley.

According to O’Malley, he likes most UFC contract fighters, but recently admitted he thought Luke Rockhold was a “shower.” The former middleweight champion is set for a showdown with brash Sean Strickland at UFC 269 on December 11 inside Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York.

Rockhold’s opponent Strickland has also admitted that the former champion’s arrogance is off-putting. After Strickland’s cursed rant about Rockhold, fellow UFC fighter Sean O’Malley also shared his take on the former middleweight champion. In the latest episode of Sean O’Malley’s YouTube podcast, the bantamweight explained why he challenged one of AKA’s senior members.

“There’s nobody in the UFC that I don’t like. I take that off, Luke Rockhold is a jerk. Other than that my God sucks I can’t say that because he could … it’s hard to say because he can beat me so I hope I don’t find myself in a situation where it’s me and him in a room and I’m like ‘I didn’t mean that Luke. Lucas, I just thought what you were saying was silly, ”said Sean O’Malley.

O’Malley claims he could go back on his claims about Rockhold if they were ever trapped in a room together. After all, the 135-pound star understands the huge height difference between the two. “Suga” insists that Rockhold was drunk at a party and started harassing O’Malley’s father about his son’s loss to Marlon “Chito” Vera.

“They were in Whitefish. Luke [Rockhold] was drunk and he kept telling my dad ‘Chito beats your son’s ass.’ My dad said Luke was great (pissed off) but he kept saying “Chito beats your son’s ass **”. Why would he be like this? Luke said (to my dad) ‘Don’t you know who I am?’ And my dad said, ‘You sound familiar but I don’t know.’ So that probably pissed him off. I don’t know the whole story, ”Sean O’Malley said in a previous episode of his podcast.

Apparently, Sean Strickland and Sean O’Malley share their contempt for Rockhold. After the bantamweight admitted that the former champ tried to upset his father after O’Malley’s loss to Marlon Vera, his opinion of Rockhold took a turn for the worse. Unlike O’Malley, however, Strickland’s trashy conversation with Rockhold will reach heights that we don’t often see between two fighters on a big-name pay-per-view.

If Cory Sandhagen was successful, the UFC champions would be stripped of their titles after nine months of inactivity.

Sandhagen, who replaced an injured Sterling at UFC 267, appeared in the latest episode of MMA time to talk about his upcoming interim title clash against Petr Yan. Sandhagen and MMA reporter Ariel Helwani explained how long contenders should wait for inactive champions. Helwani postulated that title holders should have one year before the UFC takes away their titles. But according to Sandhagen:

“I don’t know, man… Nine? Nine months in there? If you don’t fight in nine months, then yeah, then you should take your clothes off. I think a year is a really long time to go. keep people waiting, you know. You don’t have a ton of fights, you don’t have a ton of time in sports, especially in the prime of life. And I think keep people waiting at least a year is a bit long. “

Sandhagen pointed out that most MMA fighters only have a short window to maximize their physical bonuses. With that in mind, ‘The Sandman’ believes that no competitor should wait for a champion for more than nine months. As it stands, however, the UFC takes titles away from champions on a case-by-case basis.

Watch Cory Sandhagen’s interview at The MMA Hour:

Cory Sandhagen says Aljamain Sterling shouldn’t be stripped of UFC bantamweight title

The long-awaited rematch between bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and former defending champion Petr Yan will have to wait a bit longer. This is because ‘Funk Master’ was not allowed to compete after undergoing neck surgery.

However, Cory Sandhagen doesn’t think Sterling deserves to be punished for being injured. The 29-year-old interim bantamweight title challenger said:

“It depends on how long he really has to be out. I think it would be a bad way to undress someone because, one, he really fouled him in his last fight and that’s what won him the belt. But also, like the guy was actually hurt. “

Michael Chandler has given his prediction on how he sees the fight between Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira unfold when the two meet later this year.

After coming to the UFC as one of the most accomplished fighters to ever fight in the promotion, Michael Chandler had a dream start to life with his new venture as he scored a huge victory by knockout against Dan Hooker.

After his debut, Chandler experienced a quick turnaround and faced Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title four months later. Despite a solid first round, the 35-year-old was caught and finished just 19 seconds into the second round.

While Chandler remains optimistic about the fight for UFC gold in the near future, he does think “Do Bronx” may not be the man at the top of the division if that moment ever comes along.

In a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour, Michael Chandler started off by applauding Oliveira for evolving and becoming the fighter we see today.

“I think they’re both complete fighters. I think Oliveira has shown in her last two fights, especially in the fight against me, her hands have come, ”Chandler said. “He’s basic and he hits hard. He hits harder than you think. His grappling is obviously… has always been perfect.

Although he was complimentary of the champion, Chandler sees the fight unfold against the Brazilian.

“But I just think Dustin Poirier is a little better in every way. I think Dustin Poirier’s cardio, I think Dustin Poirier’s ability to hurt him and finish the fight like I couldn’t, is second to none. I think Dustin Poirier wins this fight with a third or fourth round stoppage. Chandler guessed.

Charles Oliveira will be hoping to make his first successful UFC lightweight title defense when he puts it all on the line against Dustin Poirier at UFC 269 on December 11.

Do you agree with Michael Chandler’s prediction?

[ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED OCTOBER 3, 2020, 1:34 PM]

Julianna Peña believes Amanda Nunes is around two months old until she is dropped from her bantamweight championship.

Bantamweight contender Julianna Peña will take on Germaine de Randamie tonight at UFC on ESPN 16 in a fight that has major implications for the title photo at 135. Defending champion Amanda Nunes has ruled the division for four years now. , but added a championship featherweight to her responsibilities at the end of 2018, which helped make her a less active bantamweight champion. This fact has not escaped Julianna Peña, who believes that if Nunes does not defend the belt soon, she should give up the championship.

“Look, I have respect for all these women in the division. Of course I have respect for the champion, ”Peña told the UFC on ESPN Media Day 16.“ But one thing I see happening all the time is if you don’t fight. not for your belt in a year, then you have to give it up. And if she isn’t fighting for the 135-pound belt, it’s time to give it up and let someone else try.

Julianna Peña’s goal remains the same

Amanda Nunes’ last title defense came in December last year with a shutout victory over Peña’s opponent tonight, Germaine de Randamie. That would give Nunes two months to defend her title if Peña’s recommendation came true. And if Nunes were to leave the bantamweight championship, Peña wouldn’t feel cheated by having bad luck with the greatest WMMA fighter of all time, as his main focus is faceless.

“If she doesn’t want to beat me, then that’s okay,” Pena said. “Looks like she picked most of her fights. And that’s her right as a champion, but my job is to keep my eyes on the prize. And for me, it’s always been about fighting for the belt and having those 12 pounds of gold around my waist. And that’s the only thing I see. That’s my goal, and I’m not going to stop until I get there.

Chances are, with a win tonight over Germaine de Randamie, Peña will have the opportunity to reach her goal in her next fight and give Nunes the new challenge she was deprived of.

What do you think of Julianna Peña’s comments on bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes?

Kyle Daukaus vs. Kevin Holland was all advertised and always ended in controversy.

The two fighters met in a fight on Saturday night (October 2, 2021) at the UFC Vegas 38 event in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the facilities of UFC Apex.

This one didn’t last long as Holland was aggressive and Daukaus worked for a quick pullout. It didn’t work because Holland hung with him against the fence. They got separated and while Holland missed a left hook, Daukaus accidentally headed him and Holland was nearly knocked out, so he fell to apparently wake up when his face hit the mat. Kyle kicked him over and got his back in order to lock the back choke naked. The commission took a look at the replay and it was ruled that there was no competition.

Check out the highlights of the fight courtesy of the official UFC Twitter account:

Daukaus went undefeated to land a contract with the UFC after winning one fight in Dana White’s Contender series and two fights afterwards under the CFFC banner, both coming by submission. He lost a decision to Brendan Allen in June 2020. This fight marked his promotional debut. He rebounded with a decision win over Dustin Stoltzfus at UFC 255 before losing a decision to Phil Hawes in May 2021.

Claressa Shields wishes she would turn to MMA sooner due to the state of women’s boxing.

Shields is one of the best female boxers as she is the undisputed champion in two weight classes and has held titles in three weight classes. She is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist, but despite being 11-0 in boxing, she recently switched to MMA and signed with the PFL. For Shields, she says she wishes she had made that change earlier in her career.

“I feel like I wouldn’t have changed if I could become a household name in boxing,” Shields told MMA Junkie. “I feel like I did everything I could in boxing to be that household name and get that million dollar check. Even with all of my accomplishments, it’s still not enough. It just pissed me off in general. But I have decided that you know, instead of pulling out of boxing and saying ‘F this sport’, I’m going to keep defending my boxing titles.

“But I’m going to use my youth of 26 and see what I can do at 32 – see if I can become an MMA champion and a household name in MMA,” Shields continued. “I have already become a household name in MMA over the past few months right after a fight. So I should have started doing MMA much earlier. In boxing you can only go so far and get so much notoriety, but in MMA it’s limitless.

Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa Shields, Associated Press

Why Claressa Shields wishes she had gone to MMA sooner is due to how they promote women’s fights over boxing. In boxing, women rarely make the headlines and they only fight in two-minute rounds, which Shields deems sexist.

Shields isn’t the only boxer to say something about it, either. She also did a women-only pay-per-view to prove that women can sell fights. However, it looks like from now on she will be focusing on MMA.

“It’s sexist for people to say that (women can’t sell) without giving up the opportunity,” Shields said. “That’s the thing. Start giving women the opportunity, start getting numbers. And if women don’t sell, whatever if they don’t sell, do your job and promote. fights. Build the story. Get the girls to push each other to weigh-ins and shit. Do your job. That’s what you’re supposed to do.

“But they feel in women’s boxing that it’s impossible. How is that not possible if women in MMA are doing it? I think the guys at the top who don’t want to cut the check, they’re just saying all that to save money. “Women can’t do that. Women can’t do that. It’s going to make us lose money, ”when it’s not,” Shields concluded.

What do you think of Claressa Shields saying she regrets not joining MMA sooner?
