Four weeks before the finale of their largely successful 2021 season on October 27, the Professional Fighters League (PFL) held a press conference on Wednesday, September 29, which brought together the 12 finalists from each of the six weight divisions, as well as a number of important announcements.

PFL CEO Peter Murray kicked off by announcing the signing of Julia Budd, who will make her debut against Kaitlyn Young at the PFL World Championship.

Budd will also join the PFL 2022 season.

“PFL President of Combat Operations Ray Sefo and his team develop and recruit the best MMA fighters year round, and it is a privilege for me, on behalf of Ray and the team to announce that we signed Julia Budd, a champion fighter and one of the best women in the sport today, ”said Murray. “Julia, welcome to the PFL. Julia will debut on that same card, and Julia will compete in the 2022 women’s division next season.

It was also announced that multi-platinum rapper and PFL investor Wiz Khalifa will also honor the PFL World Championships for a performance.

The 2021 PFL World Championship will be highlighted by the women’s lightweight championship bout between division queen Kayla Harrison and impressive newcomer Taylor Guardado.

“It’s an incredible achievement to have a zero in the loss column. I’ve seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, ”said Harrison. “Being undefeated is not the ultimate goal; it is to grow personally and professionally. I’m not afraid of a loss, some of my biggest lessons came after the losses. I don’t think I will lose; but whatever happens, I will embrace the journey.

Meanwhile, Guardado remains optimistic about his chances of coming away with a raised hand in triumph.

“I mean, I got here for a reason, I won my last three fights. I think at the end of the day I just need to be the best version of me that night, ”Guardado said.

In the main co-event, a highly anticipated rematch between the welterweight champions will take place as Ray Cooper III takes on Magomed Magomedkerimov.

” I do not think so [Ray Cooper III] is as diverse a fighter as I am. I think there are several levels where I can surpass him, and I am looking forward to this rematch, ”said Magomedkerimov.

On the other hand, Cooper is convinced the outcome will be different this time around.

“I’m going to do the same thing I always do, [Magomed Magomedkerimov] can say whatever he wants. At the end of the day, I’m going to punch him in the face. Finally, I can pay it off and keep my title, ”Cooper said.

In a special fight, three-division boxing world champion Claressa Shields returns to the PFL cage to face Abigail Montes.

“I think I’ll be a lot better than I was when I started pro. I was a little nervous and was looking for so many things. We will continue to develop this performance and I will become a better fighter overall. I want to be on top of the tournament in the future, ”said Shields, who won his PFL debut.
